What is Goro-Goro? |
| Goro-Goro is an ensemble of percussion musicians based in San Diego, California. Performances include drumming, percussion, movement, and vocals to create a blend of audio and visual entertainment. The music has roots in many cultures and we use a variety of drums and percussion instruments that span the world. Our drumming expresses the unity of humanity. |
| To express this unity, Goro-Goro plays music that has roots in many world cultures, but is developed with no intentions of ethnic identity or authenticity. In this way, rather than emphasizing the differences between cultures, we celebrate what is common between them. Goro-Goro's specialty is stage shows. Although all the music is danceable, audiences are given a full-performance presentation and find themselves engrossed in Goro-Goro's onstage antics and engaging movements. The percussion is massive, with wall-shaking powerful beats, balanced by layers of intricate rhythms. All music is acoustic and natural, with no electric instruments. |
|
| The membership is international as well. We have players from the US, Mexico, Japan, Azerbaijan, England, Brazil, Turkey, and South Korea. | |

An Interview with Brian Pound of Goro-Goro on Rhythmic Artists Magazine This magazine is dedicated to those who perform,
play or dabble in the rhythmic arts. This includes, but is not limited
to, drumming and percussion, bellydancing, hoop dancing, firedancing,
folk dancing, world fusion music and many others. A global phenomenon,
the art of rhythm has taken the world by storm, and with the advantages
of the internet, brought them to others who previously had little to
no resources for learning or discovering the rhythmic arts. Drum circles
are virually everywhere, firedancing has gained momentum from being
strictly a circus act, to becoming a popular hobby and original performance,
bellydancing has exploded out the Hollywood sterotype and come into
its own, empowering women, and showing the true beauty of this art. |
